The papers contain copies of reports, statistics, memoranda and correspondence relating to Townsend's varied work in New Guinea. There is as well a photo album illustrating the propaganda work of F.E.L.O., ten diaries (1947-1956), texts of broadcasts, drafts of articles published in Blackwood's Magazine (1933, 1946), The Geographical Journal (1933) and Australia's Northern Neighbors (1960), letters to the Bulletin (1959,1960) and a typescript draft of Townsend's book District officer from untamed New Guinea to Lake Success 1921-1946 (Syd., Pacific Publications, 1968).
